Our pedagogical approach - How we structure our private lessons
Where technique meets expression.
- Attention to proper hand and overall body position : crucial for playing comfortably and with the right technique.
- A variety of technical exercises : to develop finger dexterity, agility, coordination, and hand independence.
- Repertoire: pieces are chosen to target specific technical and musical goals such as phrasing, dynamics, rhythm and articulations. Whether it’s classical, pop, jazz, contemporary or film music, we encourage students to choose a piece they love to keep the lessons inspiring and motivating. The teacher finds an adapted version of the chosen music for the student’s level.
- Music theory, ear training, and sight reading : this part of the lesson focuses on learning how to read musical notation, understand rhythm, key signatures, musical patterns, terminology, intervals, and other essential elements of music literacy.
- Detailed assignments and exercises : each lesson is accompanied by detailed notes to guide at-home practice, ensuring steady progress and reinforcement of the concepts learned in class.
- Opportunities to shine on stage : our students have the opportunity to participate in up to three concerts per year, allowing them to build confidence, develop stage presence, and celebrate their musical progress.
